The Body Control Unit is responsible for monitoring and controlling the electronic accessories throughout a vehicle’s body. In a modern car, the BCU manages power windows, power mirrors, air conditioning, the immobiliser system, central locking and more. It communicates with all other ECUs on the vehicle’s shared CAN bus — and its core function is controlling load drivers: actuating the relays that make things happen in the physical vehicle, from locking doors to flashing turn signals to dimming interior lighting.
Headlights, tail lights, fog lights, turn signals and DRL management — including ambient and adaptive lighting control in premium configurations.
Dome lights, map lights, footwell illumination and courtesy lighting — with dimming control and door-open triggered activation.
Front and rear wiper control with configurable speed intervals, rain sensor integration, and speed-dependent automatic wiper activation.
Washer pump control coordinated with wiper timing — front and rear washer systems with fluid level monitoring output.
All-door lock and unlock actuation, speed-dependent auto-lock, remote locking via key fob integration and immobiliser coordination.
A/C compressor relay control, fan speed management, temperature sensor reading and cabin comfort system coordination with HVAC ECU.
Hazard flasher control with synchronised left and right indicator activation — independent of ignition state for emergency signalling.
